Under normal circumstances, asking for a girl’s phone number is not rocket science. But when the situation is about a girl you want to date, you have to plot smart ways to have her handing over her phone number, short of hypnotizing her into submission. But in real life, that’s a no go.

The Approach

Style and timing of the approach is crucial when you want to ask a girl her phone number. In this age of stalkers and wackos, girls are extra careful and giving their phone numbers to casual acquaintances (which includes you) and strangers, can be dangerous to their health. So sauntering over to a girl because you like her face and figure and want her phone number is not advised, even for the expert girl chasers.

1. Create the stage. It takes real acting and creating a dramatic situation to stop a girl on her tracks but you never ask for her phone number outright. If you happen to see a cute female specimen in a shop go to the counter where’s she is inspecting some stuff. You must bump “accidentally” and ask for her excuses before telling her you’re in a fix figuring out what to buy for a naughty kid sister. Before she can protest, smile and ask her if she can suggest anything (with a woeful mask on your face).

Ask her if she has a kid brother or sister, nephews or nieces (just to be sure) to get her into talking about crazy kids. Kids like dogs are sure-fire icebreakers and are not threatening issues. She’ll take on the challenge, listen and discuss some points about her proposal and wham! Pretend you are catching the next train. Would she please give you her number so you follow up on her other suggestions as you cannot afford to disappoint this demanding kid sister?

2. Put on your best manners. Your mom was never wrong about the good manners she instilled in your head. Put your good manners on display before, during, and after that “chance” encounter. Girls like men who have good manners. Oh but you must still to have a reason for asking her phone number. In a subway, look like a little-boy lost and approach the girl anxiously and timidly with a friendly smile plastered all over your face.

She will give directions and if she’s alone you can continue with your drama. Now, the test, thank her profusely emphasizing you are new to the place and you are alone and don’t know nobody yet in this strange city. Would it be alright to have her phone number because you need a friend? Give her your phone number too – but be the first to call or she will think it would be bad for her feminine charms to make the first call.

3. Be sensitive to her body language. Her smile and the way her body leans towards you are signs she is a friendly girl and can be a super girlfriend.
